Empowerment
We recognize and celebrate the human potential for growth and healing. We believe in each person's ability to create positive change in their life and foster resilience. Therapy is viewed as a process of uncovering and actualizing this potential.

Compassion
We cultivate a culture of care that seeks to serve individuals with empathy and respect. We strive to provide an nonjudgmental environment in which all experiences are valued and where people feel seen and understood.

Collaboration
We view therapy as a collaborative partnership that serves as a source of healing. We honor each individual as the expert on their own experience and hold space for clients to share their authentic self and perspectives in working together to implement change.

Creativity
We believe in the power of curiosity and imagination in exploring new solutions, insights, and ways of being in the world. Creativity involves the ability to consider new angles, try new things, and move beyond the status quo for growth and healing. Creativity offers an exploratory and transformational way to increase understanding of ourselves and others.

Kelly Jo Sumner, LMFT
Kelly is the founder and owner of Lumenate Integrative Therapy and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She brings over 20 years of experience supporting individuals, couples, and families as they navigate life’s challenges, deepen self-understanding, and build healthier, more fulfilling relationships. She is dedicated to helping people strengthen compassion and resilience—both within themselves and in their connections with others.

Kelly earned her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Expressive Arts Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies. This training deepened her appreciation for creativity and the many ways people can access healing. Her therapeutic approach is integrative and tailored to each client. She draws from Internal Family Systems, EMDR, Expressive Arts Therapy, Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Psychodynamic Therapy to help people connect with their inner strengths, process difficult experiences, and create lasting change. At the heart of her work is building a warm, trusting relationship and creating an affirming space where growth, healing, and deeper connection can take root.

Outside of her work, Kelly enjoys the beautiful nature that Santa Cruz offers and maintains a personal meditation practice, which supports her grounding presence as a therapist.

Nora Kim, AMFT
Nora (she, her) is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who works with teens, adults, couples, and families who are navigating life transitions, relationship and family issues, grief, anxiety, and depression. Nora believes that everyone has the capacity for growth and change with caring and non-judgmental support.

Nora graduated from the California Institute of Integral Studies with a Master's in Counseling Psychology. Nora's practice is rooted in self-compassion, awareness and acceptance. She is trained in Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), trauma-informed care, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). However, Nora believes it is the relationship between the therapist and client that matters most - regardless of approach.

Therapy can be awkward and uncomfortable for many people. Nora's down-to-earth approach will help you establish a safe and caring foundation as a starting place for your work. Nora is Korean-American and has two grown sons, two dogs, two cats, and can be found in her garden in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Shannon Kromat, AMFT
Shannon (she/her) is a dedicated Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) who helps individuals, couples, and families build more compassionate, connected lives. Her work centers on cultivating a kinder, more accepting relationship with yourself while also strengthening emotional connection and communication with important people in your life.
Shannon encourages curiosity about the origins of emotions, believing that understanding those roots supports growth and healing. She emphasizes mindfulness and the mind‑body connection, inviting inner wisdom to guide change, while offering practical skills to manage stress, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and major life transitions.
Her style blends person‑centered, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), strength‑based techniques, and trauma‑informed care. She creates a warm, nonjudgmental space where clients are heard, validated, and guided to translate insight into small, achievable steps that foster resilience and healthier relationships.
For couples, Shannon uses Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman Method approaches to restore trust, improve communication, and deepen intimacy. In family therapy, she applies systems‑aware interventions to support parent–teen relationships, conflict resolution, and navigating life changes together.
Shannon holds a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Palo Alto University and is committed to culturally responsive, inclusive care. Outside the therapy room, Shannon spends time with her partner of 15 years enjoying the outdoors and is a devoted dog and book lover.
Marilyn Hymes, AMFT
In her practice, Marilyn Hymes (she/her) is devoted to creating a safe, nurturing space where teens, families, parents, couples, and individuals can show up authentically and without judgment. She believes therapy is most effective when people feel supported, accepted, and truly seen.

Marilyn earned her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Expressive Arts Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco and is an Associate Marriage
and Family Therapist (AMFT).

With a grounded and intuitive presence, she integrates expressive arts therapies—such as painting, writing, metaphor, and sand tray work—as gentle ways to explore emotions, reflect on experiences, and make meaning of life events. No art skills are needed; the focus is on expression and self-discovery, not creating something perfect. Her therapeutic approach is rooted in trauma-informed care, narrative practices, and a relational framework. Marilyn weaves together evidence-based practices with compassionate presence, supporting emotional, cognitive, and somatic healing. She is passionate about accessible care and believes every person carries innate wisdom and the capacity to heal, grow, and thrive.

Outside of her work, Marilyn has been married for 20 years and is the mother of two high schoolers, along with two cats and two dogs. She enjoys hiking and spending time in nature, and if she were a season, she would be spring—full of renewal, creativity, and possibility.

Lidwine da Silva, AMFT (she/her) is warm, compassionate, and deeply client-centered. She specializes in supporting teens, couples, parents, and families as they navigate life’s challenges — from stress, anxiety, and depression to grief and major life transitions. She believes that therapy is most effective when it honors each person’s unique experiences, strengths,
and preferences.

Lidwine’s approach is collaborative and non-judgmental. She draws from a variety of evidence-based methods — Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness practices — tailoring each session to meet the specific needs and goals of her clients.

Rooted in her Christian faith, Lidwine also welcomes clients who wish to explore their spirituality or integrate their Christian beliefs into the healing process. She offers a safe and compassionate space for those seeking guidance, strength, and hope through both psychological and faith-based perspectives.

Lidwine became a therapist because she believes people are fundamentally well-intentioned and capable of growth when they feel truly heard, seen, and safe enough to explore their inner world. Creating that safe space is at the heart of her work. She holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University and is committed to walking alongside her
clients as they discover new ways to heal, connect, and thrive.
