Kelly Jo Sumner, LMFT
Kelly is the founder and owner of Lumenate. She brings over 20 years of experience as a Marriage and Family Therapist supporting individuals, couples, and families (in Santa Cruz and across California) as they navigate life’s challenges, deepen self-understanding, and build healthier, more fulfilling relationships. She is dedicated to helping people strengthen compassion and resilience—within themselves and their connections with others.

Kelly earned her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Expressive Arts Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies. Her therapeutic approach is integrative and tailored to each client. She draws from Internal Family Systems, EMDR, Expressive Arts Therapy, Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Psychodynamic Therapy to help people connect with their inner strengths, process difficult experiences, and create lasting change. At the heart of her work is building a warm, trusting relationship and creating an affirming space where growth, healing, and deeper connection can take root.

Outside of her work, Kelly enjoys the beautiful nature of Santa Cruz and maintains a meditation practice, which supports her grounding presence as a therapist.
Nora Kim, AMFT
Nora (she, her) is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who works with teens, adults, couples, and families who are navigating life transitions, relationship and family issues, grief, anxiety, and depression. Nora believes that everyone has the capacity for growth and change with caring and non-judgmental support.

Nora graduated from the California Institute of Integral Studies with a Master's in Counseling Psychology. Nora's practice is rooted in self-compassion, awareness and acceptance. She is trained in Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), trauma-informed care, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). However, Nora believes it is the relationship between the therapist and client that matters most - regardless of approach.

Therapy can be awkward and uncomfortable for many people. Nora's down-to-earth approach will help you establish a safe and caring foundation as a starting place for your work. Nora is Korean-American and has two grown sons, two dogs, two cats, and can be found in her garden in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Shannon Kromat, AMFT
Shannon (she/her) is a dedicated Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) who helps individuals, couples, and families build more compassionate, connected lives. Her work centers on cultivating a kinder, more accepting relationship with yourself while also strengthening emotional connection and communication with important people in your life.
Shannon encourages curiosity about the origins of emotions, believing that understanding those roots supports growth and healing. She emphasizes mindfulness and the mind‑body connection, inviting inner wisdom to guide change, while offering practical skills to manage stress, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and major life transitions.
Her style blends person‑centered, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), strength‑based techniques, and trauma‑informed care. She creates a warm, nonjudgmental space where clients are heard, validated, and guided to translate insight into small, achievable steps that foster resilience and healthier relationships. For couples, Shannon uses Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman Method approaches to restore trust, improve communication, and deepen intimacy. In family therapy, she applies systems‑aware interventions to support parent–teen relationships, conflict resolution, and navigating life changes together.
Shannon holds a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Palo Alto University and is committed to culturally responsive, inclusive care. Outside the therapy room, Shannon spends time with her partner of 15 years enjoying the outdoors and is a devoted dog and book lover.
Marilyn Hymes, AMFT
Marilyn holds a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Expressive Arts Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, and is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT).

Marilyn brings a grounded, intuitive presence to her work — one that meets clients exactly where they are. She integrates expressive arts therapies such as painting, writing, metaphor, and sand tray work as gentle, accessible doorways into self-exploration. These modalities invite clients to explore emotions, reflect on lived experience, and make meaning of their stories — no artistic skill required. The focus is never on creating something perfect, but on the freedom of authentic expression and the insight it can unlock.

Her therapeutic approach is rooted in trauma-informed care, narrative practices, and a relational framework that honors the whole person — emotionally, cognitively, and somatically. Marilyn weaves evidence-based practices together with deep compassionate presence, creating a space where healing feels both safe and possible. She is committed to accessible care and holds a profound belief that every person carries innate wisdom and an extraordinary capacity to heal, grow, and thrive.

Marilyn has a special passion for working with moms. She understands firsthand the enormity of what motherhood asks of a person — the seismic shifts in identity, the changes to one's body, and the quiet losses and unexpected gifts that come with it. She walks alongside mothers with empowering support and boundless love, helping them reconnect with themselves, reclaim their sense of self, and find solid ground in the beautiful, overwhelming journey of raising humans.

Outside of the therapy room, Marilyn has been happily married for 20 years and is the proud mother of two high schoolers — plus a beloved household that includes two cats and two dogs. She recharges by hiking and immersing herself in nature. And if she were a season? Undoubtedly spring — alive with renewal, creativity, and the quiet promise of what's possible.

Lidwine da Silva, AMFT
Lidwine da Silva, AMFT
Lidwine da Silva, AMFT (she/her) is warm, compassionate, and deeply client-centered. She specializes in supporting teens, couples, parents, and families as they navigate life’s challenges — from stress, anxiety, and depression to grief and major life transitions. She believes that therapy is most effective when it honors each person’s unique experiences, strengths,
and preferences.

Lidwine’s approach is collaborative and non-judgmental. She draws from a variety of evidence-based methods — Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness practices — tailoring each session to meet the specific needs and goals of her clients.

Rooted in her Christian faith, Lidwine also welcomes clients who wish to explore their spirituality or integrate their Christian beliefs into the healing process. She offers a safe and compassionate space for those seeking guidance, strength, and hope through both psychological and faith-based perspectives.

Lidwine became a therapist because she believes people are fundamentally well-intentioned and capable of growth when they feel truly heard, seen, and safe enough to explore their inner world. Creating that safe space is at the heart of her work. She holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University and is committed to walking alongside her
clients as they discover new ways to heal, connect, and thrive.
